Rick Laska, LICSW, CST
Sex Therapist Lyn-Lake Psychotherapy and Wellness, Ltd.Biographical Info
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Certified Sex Therapist(CST) who focuses on issues related to human sexuality, including, but not limited to: sexual functioning, sexual trauma, sexual identity, sexual behaviors, arousal concerns, desire discrepancy in relationships, issues with orgasm, and issues with sexual pain. I received my Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work from St. Catherine University/University of St. Thomas in 2014. I have been working in human services for over 9 years and in the field of human sexuality for 17 years. I am a Kink Aware Provider and a risk-reduction provider, meaning I work with people to reduce risk in their lives –abstaining from behaviors or substances is not mandatory in your work with me.
I work primarily from a relational focus, meaning our relationship is the primary healing tool in our work together with all its potential ups and downs, hopefully while we maintain a sense of humor! Emotions can be messy and our time together is for us to sort through the confusing messages feelings often leave us with.
Primarily drawing from psychodynamic theory, I use multiple approaches to meet the diverse goals people bring to therapy. I have been trained in and regularly use: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Tantra, Imago Therapy, Attachment Theory, Brain Spotting, and some alternative therapies. I’m also a life-long learner in hopes of staying current on the cutting-edge research of therapy in attempt to make sure my clients are getting the best services they can receive.
My professional areas of interest include sexual trauma, LGBTQIAA2S clients, mindfulness and tantric sex, chemical health/sexual health issues, and non-mainstream sexualities such as non-monogamy/polyamory/kink/BDSM. Regardless of what you are struggling with, my hope is to honor your humanity, see you for who you are (not just your struggles), and help you discover your own definition of sexual and mental health.
